I recently attended a SEND NAMB 2015 Mission Conference, co-hosted by the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board. To have a gathering such as this with both Mission Boards involved was tremendous. Over 13k were in attendance with ages ranging from early teens to “fourth-quarter” guys like me. The main speakers, as well as, the ones who led the Breakout Conferences, were gifted leaders from across our denomination. The ‘call to missions’ was the prominent appeal, but there were at least two other ‘common themes’, as well. Discipleship/making disciples and building community were common in many of the sessions. There seems to be a ‘consumer’ mindset in many churches today. The pastor and staff “do” and folks come in and “partake”. But as I understand Ephesians, the pastor (and staff) “equip” members in order for them to participate in reaching out and bringing them in. Now, community simply means, developing relationships in a group context. We addressed these in our recent Key Leader Conference and will continue to do so in the days ahead. Be blessed and be one!
